This is a Introduction email to assist you in understanding the Early Dispute Resolution (EDR) assistance process. The EDR service provides homeowners and contractors with an opportunity to resolve issues early through guided discussion and conciliation. This process supports open and respectful conversations and allows both parties to remain involved in exploring potential outcomes, rather than having a formal decision made by another body. About the EDR Service EDR conciliators act as independent and impartial facilitators. Their role is to support constructive conversations, ensure both parties have an opportunity to be heard, clarify the issues in dispute, and assist in exploring practical options for resolution. The service does not advocate for either party. Outcomes can only be reached where both parties are willing to engage in good faith. Please note: Participation in EDR does not automatically result in a building inspection. EDR officers do not conduct inspections, provide technical building advice, make insurance determinations, or issue formal decisions. The purpose of the service is to facilitate discussions, not to assess building work or determine fault. Your Desired Outcome To assist us in preparing for the conciliation process, please consider your desired outcome. This may include what you are hoping to achieve through EDR or any practical solutions you believe may help resolve the matter. Understanding this helps our conciliators facilitate more focused and productive discussions. Please Note the Following Regarding QBBCC Mediation and Conciliation’s Service: QBCC does not provide a “make safe” service and takes no responsibility for the health and safety of the occupants of a dwelling. Health and safety on the site are the responsibility of the property owner so should there be immediate safety concerns, the QBCC recommends the property owner take steps to mitigate the risk. QBCC does not provide legal advice around any contractual issues that might exist, for example demand for payment under a contract, contract termination, or any other legal matters. Next Steps A member of our team will review the request as part of our intake process to assess whether the matter is suitable for EDR. If accepted, we will contact you within 4 weeks of lodgement of your case to explain the process and discuss the next steps. Please be advised that any requests received within this timeframe may not be actioned until a case officer has been allocated and a full assessment has been completed. If the matter cannot be resolved through EDR, there may be other pathways within QBCC or external to QBCC. These
